The Trail Itself

The Sarsen Trail walk follows a 26 mile route through the beautiful Wiltshire countryside. From the stunning Vale of Pewsey (where we live) to the contrasts of Salisbury Plain, this unique route links two of the UK's World Heritage sites - the ancient stone circle at Avebury and world-famous Stonehenge. The route is a multi-terrain, undulating cross-country course of moderate severity (by some standards) and may be muddy in wet weather and dusty when dry.

Last year, over 1,700 walkers took part, in addition to the nearly 400 runners participating in the Neolithic Marathon which is held on the same day, using the same route as the walk.

This is the 20th year that the Sarsen Trail has been held and this year, Wiltshire Wildlife Trust are hoping to encourage more people than ever to take part and through their sponsorship, raise funds for conservation work in Wiltshire.

How Did We Get On Last Year?

The full 26 mile walk took us around 10 hours from start to finish with a couple of breaks. By the time we reached the halfway mark, the soles of Julian's feet were each just one great big blister, so the second half took most of the time.

It was a tough day, but we gained such a great sense of achievement that we have decidd to do it again this year!

What About The Money!

OK! OK! You mercenary lot! Well, thanks to your kind donations (and more than a little nagging from us), we were able to raise just short of £1,000 for Kidney Research UK last year, thus smashing our £500 target.

This year, we have upped out target to £750 in the hope that new friends and new colleagues (that means you) will join us in supporting Kidney Research UK.

Why Do We Do It?

Once again this year, we are participating in the Sarsen Trail for purely selfish reasons. Great walks, fresh air and sunshine - what better way to spend your free time?

Just as last year, we are using sponsorship as a way of motivating ourselves to get out and train on the wetter, colder days in the lead up to the big day. The fear of a mob of disappointed friends and colleagues who have spent money sponsoring us is a great motivator.

We have chosen to raise money for Kidney Research UK, just as we did last year and have setup a JustGiving.com page so that all you lovely people can give money to Kidney Research UK without us having to handle cash or cheques.
